The point of buying Kratom in bulk is to make it last – however, if not stored properly it wont. Purchasing large batches of Kratom is an investment, therefore you’ll want to minimize being wasteful. Here are some tips on how to properly store Kratom to get the most out of your investment.
The Shelf Life of Kratom
Kratom has a shelf life of 1 – 3 months; depending on how properly you store it. There are many factors to take into account such as light – temperature – oxygen – other nearby products. An important thing to remember is that Kratom is an organic product. Exposure to direct sunlight can cause it to break down its alkaloids – causing it to lose its potency. Also, exposure to extreme temperatures can cause it to lose its potency; we recommend storing your Kratom in a dark, cool place to help make it last. Exposure to oxygen can cause the Kratom to begin oxidizing – making it less potent. This happens when you don’t seal your Kratom properly allowing air to get into the container. You will want to make sure to always seal your Kratom properly; this is also to ensure nearby odors don’t seep into your Kratom.
Another recommendation when storing Kratom is using the container it comes in. You may want to transfer your Kratom to a bigger container to make more space or to easily store. If you switch out the container – look for containers that provide an air-tight seal. Mason jars and ziplock bags are ideal for storage. For longer storage we recommend using vacuum sealed bags. This can prevent your Kratom from oxidizing. You are able to use any type of container as long as you keep it out of direct sunlight, and air-tight.
If you didn’t consume all your Kratom during the 3 months from purchase, that’s ok. You don’t have to throw away the Kratom – it just might not be as potent. This might cause you not to feel the same way when you first purchased it. However, it’s still good to consume as long as there is no mold in the product. Your Kratom might get off colored after some time – but there is no need to be alarmed. You will want to smell the Kratom to see if there are any strange odors coming from it. Kratom shouldn’t produce any type of smell, it should be an earthy, leafy odor. If your Kratom is starting to produce a strange odor, that is an indication that it has expired. Or, that you have exposed it to other heavy odor products. Whatever the case we don’t recommend you keep consuming that batch.
If there is mold present – that is a clear indication that your Kratom has expired; therefore you should discard immediately. Don’t try to salvage any of the batch – it all has been contaminated and no longer safe for consumption. The way to avoid getting mold in your Kratom is by following the general rules for storage as listed above. Also, avoid storing in a place that is susceptible to temperature change – such as a laundry room – next to a refrigerator – next to the stove – etc.
